SCAR REDUCTION
There are different types of scars.
In the treatment of your scars it is important to understand that the type of scar and your desired outcome will dictate the treatment option available.
Keloid scars. These scars are the result of an overly aggressive healing process. They extend beyond the original injury.
Contracture scars. If your skin has been burned, you may have a contracture scar. Contracture scars may also go deeper, affecting muscles and nerves.
Hypertrophic scars. These are raised, red scars that are similar to keloids but do not go beyond the boundary of the injury.
Acne scars. There are many types of acne scars, ranging from deep pits to scars that are angular or wavelike in appearance.
The different scar types above will require different treatment modalities. A complete assessment of the scar by the plastic surgeon is essential to choose the most appropriate treatment.
