MICROSURGERY
Microsurgery involves removing segments of the body (flaps) with their own blood supply and transplanting them to other areas (the recipient site) on the body and joining the blood vessels of the flap to the blood vessels in the recipient site. The size of the blood vessels are small and require the use of a microscope for visualisation. Microsurgery is used for covering large defects caused by trauma, in breast reconstruction, head and neck surgery and for replacing lost muscle function.
