DERMAL FILLERS
These are also known as facial fillers or hyaluronic acid.
Fillers are injectable substances that are used to fill in lines, grooves or simply to add volume to structures. Ageing causes loss of volume around the eyes, cheek and mouth, and also causes thinning of the lips. Fillers plump up and smooth out these areas to restore a younger appearance.
Temporary fillers last between 4 to 12 months and are derived from synthetic substances closely resembling our own skin components. The injectable usually has local anaesthetic in it for lasting pain relief. The procedure time is between 10 and 30 minutes.
Permanent fillers are derived from one’s own body and are usually fat. The injected fat feels natural and has regenerative properties when its stem cell nature is activated by the body. This “regeneration” means that new tissue is created as opposed to being healed. The fat is harvested from other areas in the body by minor liposuction. This is done under local anaesthesia and can take between 30 to 45 minutes.
